I Forgot My Own Damn Advice (Until This Happened)

The Day I Forgot My Own Damn Advice
(...And Needed My Guest to Remind Me)

Tuesday morning.
5:45am. Alarm goes off.
Heart’s already beating fast.

I wasn’t tired — I was tense.

You ever wake up and feel like the day’s already trying to drown you?
Like you’re in an Olympic sprint before your feet even hit the floor?

That was me.

I checked my calendar and felt my chest tighten..... "holy sh*t....."

I texted my team, "no way I can do all this, we need to blow my calendar in half......"

My growth director Estefania replied with this (an example of why your team is everything)

Here’s what was on the schedule:

  • 6–8AM: High-stakes interviews for key ops roles at Action Academy. Game-changing hires. No room to miss.
  • Morning launch: Full blitz of our $14M resort syndication — podcast, email, social. Huge raise. Big stakes.
  • 10AM: Recorded a podcast with J Scott, diving into macro theory, inflation, rate risk, and capital strategy.
  • Midday: Final diligence + wire sent for a gym franchise I’m acquiring (my second this year).
  • Early afternoon: Group interview with 9 new candidates for another team role.
  • Mid-afternoon: 90-min podcast with Dr. Benjamin Hardy on identity, future self, and purpose…
  • …then realized I needed to fill 2 yacht cabins for our Croatia trip in 3 weeks (that just backed out last minute)
  • …and plan 30 days of content before I hit the road
  • Then… diligence call on another business
  • Then… 90-minute growth strategy call with my marketing director
  • Then… I dragged myself to the gym to save what little mental bandwidth I had left.....

By mid-day, I was spiraling.

Running on caffeine and cortisol.
I wasn’t present. I wasn’t grateful.
I was just trying to “make it through.”

That’s when the shift happened.

Right in the middle of the interview with Dr. Ben Hardy.

We were mid-conversation when he brought up a line from his book The Gap and the Gain:

“Most people live in the Gap. They measure themselves against where they think they should be, instead of by how far they’ve already come.”

That hit me in the gut.

Because in that moment — I was in the Gap.
I was measuring stress, not progress.
To-dos, not blessings.

I was deep in “I have to do all this,”
instead of “I
get to do all this.”

And whew, that’s dangerous territory.

Because when you live in the Gap, no amount of success will ever feel like enough.

You’ll build the exact life you dreamed of — and still feel behind.

I paused for a second after he said it.
And it all just hit me:

  • 3 years ago, I prayed for this calendar.
  • I begged for a business that mattered.
  • I dreamed of impact, team, deals, assets, adventures, ownership.

And now I’ve got it.
All of it.
In spades.

I’m not drowning…
I’m swimming in the deep end of my own answered prayers.

And that’s a blessing — not a burden.

So here’s the reminder, from me to me (and maybe to you too):

When the weight of the mission feels heavy… remember who built the throne.
When the calendar feels chaotic… zoom out and look how far you’ve come.
When you’re in the Gap… choose the Gain.

Every single thing I did that day —
every interview, every wire, every podcast, every plan —
was a direct result of the life I chose to build.

That’s not pressure. That’s privilege.

So here’s what I leave you with:

You might be carrying a heavy load right now.
But odds are, it’s the exact weight you once wished for.

Dont wish for less burden, or less load.

Wish to become a better bearer of it.

Carry it with gratitude.
Lead with presence.
And always measure backward — not forward.

We’re not here to build easy lives.
We’re here to build meaningful ones.

Fair enough?

"Mediocrity is invisible… until talent shows up." I'm f****** obsessed with this quote now. It hides in plain sight. You don’t notice it when you’re surrounded by people who mean well, try hard, and do “pretty good” work. But the moment real talent walks in — someone operating at a completely different frequency — the illusion breaks. It’s like turning on the lights in a dim room you thought was already bright. I remember the exact moment this hit me. I had just hired a new team member —...

You don’t need another big idea. You need to execute the ones you already have. You need a who, not a how. You need a partner who won’t screw you — in court or in your calendar.Because more businesses have been torched by bad partnerships than bad products. Not from lack of skill...But from lack of alignment. What most people do wrong here is blindly jump into partnership bed with someone they met, simply because they fill a gap. So if you’re thinking about doing business with a friend,...
