The Silent Killer of Growth (It’s Not What You Think)

"Mediocrity is invisible… until talent shows up."

I'm f****** obsessed with this quote now.

It hides in plain sight.

You don’t notice it when you’re surrounded by people who mean well, try hard, and do “pretty good” work.

But the moment real talent walks in — someone operating at a completely different frequency — the illusion breaks.

It’s like turning on the lights in a dim room you thought was already bright.

I remember the exact moment this hit me.

I had just hired a new team member — someone with a real track record, not just potential.

In the first week, she spotted bottlenecks I hadn’t even noticed.
In the first month, she improved workflows that had gone untouched, without me asking her to.
And in the first 90 days, she helped generate more revenue than I used to make in an entire quarter.

That’s when I realized something:

“Pretty good” was just polished mediocrity.

This shows up everywhere in business:

  • Your content strategy: “We’re posting consistently!” → But no one’s engaging.
  • Your lead gen: “We’re getting calls!” → But the pipeline’s full of tire kickers.
  • Your team: “They’re trying their best!” → But they aren’t moving the needle.

None of this seems broken — until someone excellent walks in and exposes the gaps by simply being excellent.

That’s the silent killer of growth:
You mistake motion for mastery. Effort for execution. Busy for breakthrough.

I personally just spent $124,000 trying out different marketing strategies for my business over the last four months.

Podcast managers, email marketers, social media clippers, creative directors....you name it.

Over and over again I was wondering "Is this it? Is this what I'm supposed to be happy with?"

And then finally (recently) we just onboarded a new consulting company and a new hire on our team that doubled call-flow within 30 days. I believe this new team (and new standard) will take us to $10M / Year. Predictably.

It's insane when you don't see your blind spots.....until talent shines the spotlight.

This concept applies to all areas of life - fitness, marriage, parenting etc.

I'm sure right now you're probably thinking of a time you met someone and went "oh shit....this is what the next level looks like"

That’s why I built Action Academy the way I did.

I didn’t want another group of “motivated” entrepreneurs.
I wanted a room full of killers
People who operate at a championship level.

A room where people will call eachother out PUBLICLY for not stepping up to the best level of their potential.

Fires me up. And this is what a lot of you are lacking today.

You aren't around talent. You aren't around the standard of investor / entrepreneur that is capable of making $1M / year while living in spain for the summer with their family. (spoiler alert - its hard to pull off)

Inside our community, talent is the norm, not the exception.

You don’t get to coast.
You get challenged. Sharpened. Stretched.
You get around people who make you say, “I need to raise my game.”

Because when that happens — you start shining a spotlight on the other areas of mediocrity in life.

Here’s your gut check for today:

  • Where is mediocrity hiding in your life or business?
  • Where have you settled for “good enough” because it wasn’t painful yet?
  • Who’s around you — and are they sharpening you or soothing your standards?

You don’t rise to your goals.
You fall to the level of your environment and your standards.

The Day I Forgot My Own Damn Advice(...And Needed My Guest to Remind Me) Tuesday morning.5:45am. Alarm goes off.Heart’s already beating fast. I wasn’t tired — I was tense. You ever wake up and feel like the day’s already trying to drown you?Like you’re in an Olympic sprint before your feet even hit the floor? That was me. I’ve kept this under wraps all year, but its finally time to share..... Zoning battles. Permit wars. Sleepless nights. But now, it’s finally happening. You don’t need another big idea. You need to execute the ones you already have. You need a who, not a how. You need a partner who won’t screw you — in court or in your calendar.Because more businesses have been torched by bad partnerships than bad products. Not from lack of skill...But from lack of alignment. What most people do wrong here is blindly jump into partnership bed with someone they met, simply because they fill a gap. So if you’re thinking about doing business with a friend,...
